White Coat Ceremony

Members of the second-year dental class marked their transition into the patient-care phase of their dental education in a formal ceremony Feb. 10 at the Hilton Anatole Hotel in Dallas.

Each student was presented with a special white coat embroidered with the Texas A&M Health Science Center Baylor College of Dentistry logo and adorned with an HSC-BCD Alumni Association lapel pin. The coats were furnished by the Alumni Association.

We believe the white coat is an appropriate symbol of the dentist-patient relationship, says Dr. Brad Crump, Alumni Association president and 1996 dental graduate. Wearing the coat exemplifies the responsibility the dentist accepts for providing thoughtful, compassionate and skilled health care.

The ceremony was hosted by Dr. Dean Hudson, associate dean for clinical affairs. Dr. Nancy W. Dickey, HSC president and vice chancellor for health affairs for the Texas A&M University System, and Dr. James S. Cole, HSC-BCD dean, offered remarks and congratulations to the students.

We recognize with great pride that Baylor College of Dentistry has a century-long history of producing top quality graduates who make up a large portion of the dentists now practicing in Texas, says Dickey. Congratulations Class of 2011, as you take this important step into the clinical phase of your education, symbolized by the white coat.
