Distinguished Alumni and Outstanding Young Alumni Awards :
The Outstanding Young Alumni Award is the highest honor presented by the Association in honor of alumni who have contributed distinguished service to the college and/or the dental profession. A candidate will be considered eligible within the first 10 years after graduation. Eligible candidates will exhibit outstanding contributions to their profession,community and Baylor College of Dentistry. The award may be granted to dental and/or dental hygiene alumni.
Congratulations to Dr. Brad Crump, 2007 Outstanding Young Alumni Award Winner!
Dr. Brad Crump, a native of East Texas credits his childhood dentist Dr. Duane Landry in Kilgore for sparking his interest in dentistry when he was seven years old. It was also an avid interest in Biology that sealed his fate to become a dentist. Dr. Crump proceeded to graduate from Kilgore High School and Kilgore Junior College where he was named Most Representative Male by the student body and faculty. He then attended Baylor University, where he graduated in 1993 with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. In 1993, he began his studies at Baylor College of Dentistry, where he became interested in periodontics during his sophomore year. It was in the department of periodontics that he completed and published his undergraduate research project, “Influence of Three Membrane Types on the healing of Bone Defects”.
The international Association for Dental Research where he was elected to receive a grant to present his research at the 73rd Session and Exhibition of the IADR in Singapore recognized Dr. Crump’s research. Dr. Crump from BCD with honors and was inducted into OKU in 1997. After BCOD, Dr. Crump began his periodontal residency at the University of Nebraska College of Dentistry in Lincoln, NE under the tutelage of past BCOD Dean, Dr. Richard Bradley. It was here with his thesis work, that Dr. Crump developed a new research rodent model that was published in Journal of Periodontal Research, titled, “Effects of Locally-Delivered Human Macrophage Products and Estrogen on Martine Inflammatory Bone Resorption”.
The University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Dentistry faculty awarded Dr. Crump with its Service Philosophy Award for excellence in patient care and treatment. Dr. Crump graduated with honors with a Master of Science and Certificate of Periodontology in 2000. Dr. Crump became a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology in 2005. Brad remains busy with his full time periodontal practice in Dallas faculty appointments at BCOD and University of Nebraska but has not forgotten to give back to his profession.
He remains active in organized dentistry where he is a member of the Board of Directors of the Southwest Society of Periodontists, Texas Society of Periodontists, and the Baylor College of Dentistry Alumni Association. He is also active with the Dallas County Dental Society where he served on the Board of the Southwest Dental Conference for the past 5 years, membership development committee chairman 2001-2004, is an alternate delegate to the Texas Dental Association and serves on the strategic planning committee. DCDS named Brad “New Dentist of the Year” in 2004.
Brad is a dedicated athlete and runner, where he has completed numerous triathlons, duathlons, and his first marathon in 2006.
